About me

Elektra Xanthouli is a graduate in both French and Greek Literature with specalisation in Classics. She has studied classical and modern dance and has participated in various seminars in Greece and abroad. Since 1995 she has been teaching French and, later, Ancient and Modern Greek with emphasis on etymology. She has also translated French editions about the Fine Arts, Architecture, Photography and Engraving.

In the last few years she has been focusing on a new, holistic approach to Modern Greek Language Teaching. This approach includes, on the one hand, bodily movement, music, images and scenic tools and, on the other hand, the acoustics of letters and a systematic classification of etymological roots as codes for deciphering words. In this context, she has written the work “Mythology-Movement-Language”, inspired from Hesiod’s “Theogony”, where there is reference to all the letters of the Greek alphabet and all the etymological roots. Her work “Language and Playing”, which follows the lead of her prior work, is a workshop for primary school children and is presented in municipality buildings and other venues.

Focusing on an acoustic and etymological approach to language, Elektra Xanthouli gives lessons in Ancient Greek to children and adults as well as seminars to foreigners. Finally, she gives lectures on the etymological analysis of words as a main tool for teaching the Greek language, to audiences consisting mainly of educators and parents.
